" Reading is Fundamental"
Our Parent Book Club meets monthly to read and discuss a wide variety of authors and genres. We have read historical fiction, autobiographies, motivational/self help, science fiction, fantasy, and romance.
We have started to purchase books written in English and Spanish to include our Spanish speaking families. We also choose books that are currently being read by students in class. This helps foster meaningful conversation between parents and students at home.
Discussions are always interesting, sometimes even exciting. Parents love getting together, sharing opinions, and debating positions.
This month's book is The No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith. We will meet to discuss the book on January 28th @ 6pm in the Family Room.
You can join the conversation online at our
discussion group:

Be sure to check your child's progress regularly with our EASE program. With a click of your mouse you can see access your child's activity in current classes. It's a great way to see if your child is missing work, needs help with a particular subject, or to confirm they are doing a great job!

ARIS PARENT LINK
Dear Parents,
By now you should have received the Aris Parent Link letters giving you your childs OSIS# (nine digit student identification number) and your temporary password, which will enable you to go online to see your childs academic information.
This is a first of its kind data management system that allows families to view online, anytime (24 hours) and in nine languages, the same data that educators see in the student profile:
course grades
periodic assessment results
state test scores
attendance information
enrollment history
overall academic standing
transcripts

If you do not have a computer you can visit me in the family (room 318). We have computers available for parents to use and I am offering training to all parents who need it. I help you get an email and walk you through the process. You can also visit any public library for free computer access.

WHAT'S DIFFERENT ABOUT SCHOOL LUNCH?
Dear Parents/Guardians:
Our school is now using a new computerized accounting system (POS) in the cafeteria, which has the following benefits:
• Keeps track of all meals, purchased, and payments made by your child.
• Does not overtly identify Free or Reduced students.
• Eliminates paper rosters and tickets so students can pass more easily through the serving lines. This also means no more standing in line to receive tickets!
• All students will access their account with an assigned PIN number given to them by the school office.
• All students will have access to a kiosk where prepayments can be made before entering the serving line. The kiosk accepts $1, $5, $10, $20 and quarters.
Prepayments can also be made using
www.mylunchmoney.com, a new service to prepay for your child’s school lunch and a la carte food items using your debit or credit card.
Why should I Visit the Site?
• Easy: Enrolling and funding is simple to complete online.
• Convenient: Once your account is established you can check balances, view purchases and fund the account from your computer.
• Secure: Your personal and payment card information is protected by the most advanced internet security.
How Do I Enroll?• Go to
www.mylunchmoney.com and click ENROLL NOW or call 800-479-3531.
• If your child attends a campus housing multiple schools and your child’s school is not listed, select the main school and create an account for yourself and your children. Your child’s District ID number is their OSIS number. This can be found on their school registration or report card or by calling the school.
• We suggest that you select the Smart Pay option. With our recurring payment option, money will always be in your child’s account. When a low balance is reached, money is automatically deposited.
As always, our goal is to provide nutritious meals in an attractive environment. We appreciate your support as we implement this exciting new computerized system.
